Network security with the support of computational intelligence and IoT

OPVaI-VA/DP/2018/1.1.3-09 Call for applications for a non-refundable
financial contribution to support research and development capacities
in the field of Digital Slovakia and the creative industry

Name and address of recipient: University of St. Cyril Metodo in Trnava, Nám. J. Herdu 2, Trnava
Place of project implementation: J. Herdu 2, Trnava, 6th floor
Amount of NFP provided: 221 524,80 EUR

Brief description of the project:
The project focuses on increasing the security of network communication, including Internet of Things devices, against malicious attacks. During the project, different types of network attacks and their harmful impact on network security will be tested. Various parameters, protocols and security measures will be taken into account, which will measure the degree of defense against given attacks in the network. This will result in qualitative as well as quantitative recommendations.
As a new element, computational intelligence will be used in the analysis of attacks and protection, and the improvement of the level of protection against attacks with the involvement of computational intelligence will be quantitatively assessed. It is also intended to carry out practical testing of the proposed approaches to modifying the model end-user network aimed at improving its level of security.
Partial sub-activities carried out in the project:
1. Prepare a model communication network of the Internet of Things in simulators as well as a real one and test classic security algorithms against various types of network attacks.
2. Improve the designed algorithms by using the methodology and tools of computational intelligence for decision optimizatio.
3. Develop and test algorithms for measuring the harmful impact of attacks and the degree of defense for individual parameters and defense elements. In addition to the main goal of the project to increase the scientific and research potential of the workplace in the field of network security by supporting existing research and development capacities, the project also aims to support this potential by attracting or maintaining a top foreign scientist in Slovakia in terms of activity no. 4.6.2. RIS3 SK.
