At our faculty, we have several specialized workplaces where scientific research activities are carried out.

All laboratories are part of the Science and Creative Park UCM in Trnava. It was established for the purpose of integrating the university's scientific and creative infrastructure into a larger whole, enabling multidisciplinary scientific and creative projects to be solved and operations to be optimized, including innovation and sustainable growth.

BIOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

These scientific laboratories are specialized workplaces focused on the production, isolation, separation and purification of biologically active metabolites,focusing on both primary and secondary metabolites. Thanks to modern instrumentation, it enables detailed analysis of the chemical composition of samples and optimization of purification processes. It is also possible to realize the production of metabolites in larger volumes, focusing mainly on fermentation processes leading to the biosynthesis of biopolymers, which are suitable for the production of biodegradable bioplastics. Thanks to modern equipment, it enables the optimization of cultivation conditions and efficient acquisition of target products with an emphasis on sustainability and industrial use.

The equipment of these laboratories is, for example, an Agilent HPLC/PDA fermenter, an Agilent GC-FID, a Heidolph rotary vacuum evaporator with a cooler and a vacuum pump, a ThermoScientific fluorescence reader, a ThermoScientific UV-VIS reader, columns intended for chromatography (gel permeation chromatography, ionex chromatography), 5L Biostat A plus Sartorius, a device intended for isoelectric focusing, thermomixer comfort, IKA MS3 BASIC, a Bandelin Sonopuls UW sonifier 2200, autoclave Astell, microscopes, microplate counters Biotek El800 and MRX /(Dynex), UV-Vis spectrophotometer, laboratory centrifuge UNIVERSAL 320 R, orbital shaker PSU-20 (Biosan), environmental shaker ES-20, centrifuge HETTICH UNIVERSAL 32, cooled centrifuge HETTICH MIKRO 22 R, microcentrifuge Eppendorf Minispin, electrophoresis HOEFER SE 245, MPLC preparative chromatography system, sieving device, lyophilizer, basic laboratory equipment (analytical scales, preweighers, automatic pipettes, pH-meter, dryer).

LABORATORY OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY

The laboratory focuses on research and development of methods forthe in vitro production of plant biomass, plant stem cells and specific secondary metabolites, which have potential use in various industries, primarily in pharmaceuticals, medicine, cosmetics and biologization of plant production.

In terms of equipment, these laboratories d have two large-capacity (internal volume 7 m3), cultivation (growth) chambers Fitoclima Walk-In 5000 PHL (Aralab), the laboratories also contain air-conditioned chambers (Memmert ICH260L), also with internal lighting, biological safety cabinets (boxes) Airstream® Plus Class II (Esco), horizontal and vertical autoclaves (Systec VX-75 and D 65). Common laboratory equipment (analytical scales, pH meters, devices for the production of super-pure water, water baths, also with a shaker, horizontal and orbital shakers, vortex, horizontal and vertical electrophoretic units with electric current sources and sets of automatic pipettes)

FERMENTATION LABORATORY with a thermostatic room

The fermentation laboratory with a thermostatic room is a specialized workplace intended for scientific research in the field of biotechnology and microbiology. Its main task is the cultivation of microorganisms under controlled conditions with the aim of producing valuable metabolites, such as, enzymes, bioplastics and other biologically active substances.

The fermentation laboratory contains basic equipment for working with microorganisms and their subsequent cultivation in order to obtain the desired product, such as an inoculation chamber (UV light, automatic kahan, McFarrland apparatus, vortex), microscopes (VWR), magnetic stirrers, shakers, hood, basic laboratory equipment (analytical balances, preweighers, automatic pipettes, pH-meter, dryer).

VIROLOGICAL LABORATORY

The laboratory specializes in the development and application of advanced molecular-biological methods, aimed at the diagnosis and elimination of phytopathogens that threaten economic crops. Research in this laboratory focuses on ensuring crop health and optimizing agrotechnical practices to reduce losses caused by plant diseases.

The laboratory has equipment such as the illumina MiSeq System for fast "next-generation" sequencing, the genetic capillary analyzer SeqStudio Genetic Analyzer for sequencing (according to Sanger) and fragment analysis in one run, the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer system for electrophoretic analysis of biomolecules (DNA, RNA, proteins), the BioTek Epoch 2 Microplate Spectrophotometer, centrifuges with replaceable rotors, with with and without cooling (Hermle), ultrafreezers (Arctico) -horizontal and vertical, NanoPhotometer N60 for measuring nucleic acids and proteins in UV, Qubit Flex fluorometer for high-precision quantification of DNA, RNA, microRNA and proteins, thermocycler TOne 96 G with gradient function (Analytik Jena). Common laboratory equipment (analytical scales, pH meters, devices for the production of super-pure water, water baths, also with a shaker, horizontal and orbital shakers, vortex, horizontal and vertical electrophoretic units with electric current sources and sets of automatic pipettes).

TEACHING laboratories

Research activity in laboratories such as a biochemistry laboratory or a microbiology laboratory intended for students as part of regular teaching is primarily aimed at supporting the educational process and developing practical skills.

In these laboratories there is a UV-VIS spectrophotometer, magnetic stirrers, vortexes, rotary vacuum evaporator, autoclave, thermostatic box, microscopes, basic laboratory equipment (analytical scales, preweighers, automatic pipettes, pH-meter, dryer).

analytical and diagnostic center

The analytical-diagnostic center (ADC) includes a number of analytical instruments and spectrometers for the separation and analytical identification of mixtures as well as pure substances of inorganic and organic origin. It brings together specialized laboratories at the Department of Chemistry:

Department of Radioecology and Nuclear Analysis

A scientific workplace that consists of separate laboratories and solves issues such as the characterization and identification of extremophilic microorganisms with an emphasis on research into their applicability in the disposal of radioactive waste, the development of radioindicator methods for estimating the biological accessibility of soil components and the application of lysimeters for the characterization of diverse soil processes, the development of nuclear analytical methods with an emphasis on positron emission tomography in the sense of in vivo characterization of the transport of radioactively labeled substances and metals in plant tissues.

Scientific-pedagogical laboratories in which the following scientific-research questions are addressed: assessment of the impact of stress factors on plants with an emphasis on the effects of heavy metals using modern biochemical and analytical techniques, modification and research into the applicability of natural and anthropogenic sorbents for the removal of contaminants from polluted waters.

laboratory of molecular environmental science

It is a supporting laboratory for detailed analyzes of processes that take place in living systems under environmental stress. It is fully equipped for all molecular analyzes required for ongoing research projects, but also for student theses. Analyzes of the presence and activity of specific genes (DNA, RNA), but also of many proteins or enzymes. The results of these experiments will make it possible to explain or at least better understand differences in tolerance to stress or toxic substances in the environment. Laboratory equipment includes:

  • Laboratory of Environmental Molecular Biology
    • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) apparatus
    • Instruments for protein separation and detection(electrophoretic apparatus Bio-Rad 12 Well 20 μL Mini-Protean Precast Gel, Western blot)

ecochemical laboratories

They consist of two separate laboratories in which the following scientific and research issues are addressed: analysis and monitoring of water quality, development of an optical sensor for monitoring biological water pollution, development of electrochemical methods of water purification, non-traditional use of renewable energy sources, especially solar and water energy, application of the Arduino microcomputer for use in environmental engineering, cultivation and maintenance of pure cultures of selected species of phytoplankton.

laboratory of Computer networks

The Computer Networks Laboratory is a laboratory specializing in advanced network protocols and applications. The laboratory provides space and equipment for the subject Computer networks. It is also used by workers and students working on projects in the areas of computer networks. It is a laboratory of the Cisco Networking Academic Program and prepares experts at the CCNA certification level.

Ensuring the security of information technologies is one of the necessary prerequisites for the successful use of the potential of information technologies and thus also for the further development of the information society. The laboratory makes it possible to verify theoretical and descriptive knowledge obtained in the form of experiments in the field of information technology security, which is one of the important areas of educational and research activities of faculty staff. Among other things, the laboratory deals with security in computer networks (fixed and wireless), security of smart cards and their cryptographic applications, biometric authentication and the use of cryptography for the creation and operation of secure systems. As an example of the equipment, we present the following components: HP Security Trusted Platform Module, SW for encryption of storage media, Biometric Reader/Scanner, HW keyloger, detector for detecting wireless cameras and DET plates, RFID Scanner, a specific one is the RS03 device from Bitt Technology enabling the measurement of environmental radioactivity.

The laboratory of mobile technologies is a modern teaching and research workplace, equipped with the latest technologies and top hardware. The main equipment of the laboratory includes Apple computers, which provide students and researchers with high performance, stability and an intuitive interface, ideal for developing and testing mobile applications.

The laboratory focuses on a wide range of mobile technologies, including application development for iOS and Android platforms, mobile UX/UI design analysis, mobile application security testing. Students here have the opportunity to work with various development tools such as Xcode, Android Studio and other specialized software for mobile development and testing.

In addition to the development itself, the laboratory is also equipped with tools for testing mobile applications on multiple devices at the same time, which makes it possible to simulate real conditions and optimize the performance of applications. Thus, students and researchers have access to the latest trends and technologies in the field of mobile development and can gain practical experience that is in high demand on the job market.

The laboratory is a modern facility equipped with top technology and tools for multimedia creation and graphic work. Students and staff have access to a wide range of equipment and software tools that allow working with graphics, video, audio and other multimedia formats. Laboratory equipment includes:

Multimedia station powerful workstations that are optimized for multimedia tasks and support high-resolution work.

The digital camera allows for high-definition video recording that students and staff can use to create a variety of multimedia projects.

Scanner - serves for digitizing documents, images and other materials, which can then be edited in the software.

Audio mixer - a tool for working with sound that allows mixing and editing sound tracks in real time.

Graphics tablet - enables detailed and intuitive work with graphics, suitable for illustrators, designers and other creatives.

Plotter - a device for large format printing, ideal for printing posters, technical drawings and other large graphic formats.

The laboratory is equipped with professional software, which includes:

Corel Photo & Video Suite X5 - a comprehensive package for editing photos and videos, suitable for both beginners and advanced users.

Adobe Captivate - a tool for creating e-learning projects that enables the creation of interactive presentations and videos.

CS6 Master Collection - a package of professional programs from Adobe, which includes tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and other applications for graphics, video and audio.

Corel DRAW Graphics Suite X6 - software for vector graphics, suitable for designing logos, illustrations and other visual elements.

Dreamweaver CS3 CZ software - a website creation tool, supporting HTML, CSS and other languages ​​for web development.

Flash Pro CS3 software - software for creating animations and interactive elements.

Photoshop Extended CS3 CZ software - extended version of Photoshop, suitable for advanced image editing and 3D work.

In addition to basic equipment, students have access to small drones with HD cameras that they can use to capture video and photos from different angles and heights. This technology expands the possibilities for creating dynamic and unique multimedia projects.

The laboratory also provides employees and students with access to the technological media workplaces of the Faculty of Mass Media Communication (FMK), which include:

HD TV studio - a professional studio with HD technology, which enables filming and live broadcasting with high image quality.

Editing and broadcasting workplace for digital video/audio editing - equipped with the latest technologies for post-production, enabling detailed editing of video and audio.

This combination of hardware and software equipment, together with access to dedicated media workplaces, provides students and staff with the opportunity to work on projects that require a high level of technical and artistic quality.

EDU BARrACUDA laboratory

The EDU Barracuda laboratory was built thanks to the cooperation with the U-system company. The institute received a gift of licenses for virtual boxes:

  • NextGen Control Center VC400
  • 3x NextGen Firewall VF10
  • NextGen Firewall VF25
  • Email Security Gateway 100Vx
  • and one NextGen Firewall F18 physical box.

Barracuda's products are among the world's leading commercially available information security solutions. The laboratory provides equipment and environment both for the subject Computer Networks II., for students working on bachelor's theses with a topic in the field of ICT security, but also for experiments carried out in the Laboratory of Information Security and Applied Cryptography.
