Children's University - the laboratories of the Faculty of Natural Sciences were filled with little scientists

On Tuesday, 1 July 2025, the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava hosted one of the thematic days of the Children's University event. This day camp for curious children who are eager to discover the world of science, nature, art or history took place over five days at several faculties and departments of UCM and the University of Trnava.

The organisers of the event are the Lifestarter civic association, UCM and the University of Trnava. Within the university atmosphere, children became little students for a few days - they experienced lectures, workshops and practical activities that showed them what it is like to be a scientist, historian or programmer. One of these events was hosted by the Faculty of Science, which dedicated its day to science and fascinating discoveries in the laboratories.

Science, fun and experiences in the labs

On Tuesday, the FPV premises were transformed into a place full of experiments, discoveries and research missions. Children were able to try out interesting stations prepared by different departments of the faculty.

Detective in the lab

In the laboratories of the Institute of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, children turned into little detectives who solved scientific mysteries. Three interactive stations were hiding under the name of Detective in the Lab:

  • Mystery on paper
  • Speculator in a bowl
  • Starch Revealed

Become a scientist and discover the secrets of nature!

Within the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology, young participants embarked on an adventurous expedition into the world of plants. Two stations full of surprises awaited them:

  • Growing plants without watering
  • What plants breathe, a rainbow of solutions

  • A digital mission

Modern technology also captivated the children in an interactive programme at the Institute of Computer Technology and Informatics called the Digital Mission, where creativity, logic and technical skills came together:

  • LEGO Mission
  • Virtual adventurers

Spontaneous curiosity as an engine of cognition

Children's University is not just about experiments and scientific facts - it is above all a place where children's curiosity is given room to grow. Children learn to collaborate, ask questions and find answers. Here, education was turned into fun and discovery into adventure.

A big thank you to all the participants - young scientists, teachers, organisers and volunteers - for their energy, smiles and enthusiasm.

Science is not boring - science is an adventure!
