Summer Hackathon showed the power of combining science and innovation

Cooperation between the academic and innovation environment in Slovakia received a new impetus this year. The Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (UCM) and Lifbee Academy joined forces and launched an experiment that aims to show what the transfer of research results into practice can look like.

The result was the first edition of the Summer Hackathon, which brought together university scientists with 31 young innovators. Half of them wanted to experience first-hand how cutting-edge scientific knowledge can be turned into products and services with real societal impact.

The Hackathon delivered solutions that combine scientific depth with practical impact. Scientists gained inspiration and the potential to direct their research towards solving global problems, while young innovators were given the opportunity to work with unique data and insights that would otherwise remain hidden in laboratories.

This experiment has shown that collaboration between universities and innovation teams can be a viable model for the future - and that Slovakia has the potential to connect science and practice in a way that delivers tangible results.
