Girl's Day at the Faculty of Science.

On Thursday 24 April 2025, we hosted a Girl's Day event at the Faculty of Science as part of the International Day of Women and Girls in IT. Celebrated annually around the world, this day aims to motivate young girls to discover the magic of information technology and consider a career in this dynamic industry.

In Slovakia, the event is sponsored by the civic association Aj Ty v IT, which has been connecting high school girls with the IT sector since 2014. At our faculty, we were delighted to welcome a group of girls aged 15 - 19, who were offered a glimpse into the real world of technology.

The program was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, who in her speech emphasized the importance of women's representation in IT and technology fields. This was followed by inspiring speeches from our female students and staff, who shared their journey into IT, what they enjoy about the field and what opportunities their studies have brought them.

Participants were also able to try their hand at creating a simple application and discovered that programming can be fun, creative and accessible even without previous experience. They left the event full of experience, new knowledge and maybe even with the idea of choosing to study in the IT field.

We believe that Girl's Day helped to strengthen girls' interest in technology and showed them that the world of IT is open to them too.
