What awaits you?

  • Preparatory course in mathematics - a course for all study programmes,
  • Preparatory course in Chemistry - a course for applicants to Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection and Restoration,
  • Preparatory course in biology - a course for candidates for biology, biotechnology and environmental protection and restoration.

In the courses, you will review and practice material that will help you:

  • master the introductory tests,
  • have a firm footing from the first semester,
  • get a head start on others.

And the best part? The courses are taught directly by faculty members who will then teach your courses - so you'll already know your teachers and their style in advance.

 

Courses are recommended for anyone who wants to start their studies with confidence!

This course will give you a solid foundation that will make your first semester easier and help you get up to speed with the more challenging subjects more quickly.

 

Course Content: Selected chapters in mathematics/chemistry/biology

Class size: 24 classes. 24 lessons (preparatory course in mathematics) or 16 lessons (preparatory course in mathematics). 16 hours (preparatory course in biology or preparatory course in chemistry)

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Application deadline: until 11.09.2025

Fee: 150 € for the preparatory course in mathematics

75 € for the preparatory course in biology

75 € for the preparatory course in chemistry

 

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE COURSE

After sending the application form, you will be contacted by the study department clerk and asked to pay the fee for the chosen course before the course starts.

FPV UCM reserves the right not to open the course with a lower number of registered students, in which case the fee will be refunded. In case of non-attendance, the course fee will not be refunded.

FPV UCM has the right to change courses in justified cases (change of lecturer, change of classroom, transfer of lessons, etc.).

PREPARATORY COURSE IN MATHEMATICS

This course is recommended for full-time and part-time students on the Applied Computer Science programme, as well as for students on the Chemistry and Applied Biology programmes and students on the Environmental Conservation and Restoration programme.

UNIT

  1. Linear equations and inequalities.
  2. Quadratic equations and inequalities.
  3. Set theory - operations on sets, cardinality of a set, power set.
  4. Complex numbers - definition, goniometric form of a complex number, product, quotient and power of a complex number.
  5. Basic elementary functions - definition domain, value domain - linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, cyclometric functions.
  6. Sequence, limits of sequence, limits of function.
  7. Differential calculus - derivative of a function of one real variable.

 

PREPARATORY COURSE IN BIOLOGY

This course will provide a review and reinforcement of the basic knowledge of biology, an easier transition to the university pace and requirements an opportunity to ask questions and practice problem areas, a head start before the semester begins.

The course is recommended not only for biology majors, but also for biotechnology and environmental conservation and restoration students.

UNIT

  1. Fundamentals of calculations in biological disciplines (units of quantities, basic formulas and their applications, calculation of dilution of solutions, expression and calculation of the contents of the components of a system)
  2. Fundamentals of cytology
  3. Cell cycle - mitosis and meiosis
  4. Fundamentals of genetics and genetic calculations
  5. Fundamentals of microbiology
  6. Phylogeny and evolution

 

PREPARATORY COURSE IN CHEMISTRY

Do you want to start your studies stress-free and confident that you can handle the more challenging subjects?

This course is for you if you're not quite sure about the nomenclature of chemical compounds, the basic calculations you'll need for lab exercises or seminars, and organic chemistry. It will help you avoid unnecessary mistakes, save you time when studying, and allow you to focus on new knowledge instead of catching up on the basics.

The course is recommended not only for students of biology and chemistry or applied analytical chemistry, but also for students of biotechnology and environmental protection and restoration.

UNIT

  1. Inorganic chemistry - nomenclature of chemical compounds, atom and quantum numbers, chemical bonding.
  2. Chemical calculations - amount of a substance, composition of solutions, calculations from chemical equations.
  3. Organic chemistry and biochemistry - hydrocarbons and their derivatives, nomenclature, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids.
