Institute of Biology and Biotechnology (ÚBB)

On the basis of the project activity, the employees of the ÚBB have built unique scientific laboratory workplaces for fulfilling the goals of the research focus. Working teams focus on:

• investigation of phototrophic organisms from the point of view of genetics and evolutionary biology,
• diagnosis and molecular characterization of viral plant pathogens,
• bioinformatics study of proteins at the molecular level,
• study of plant proteomics,
• the study of enzymes from their production by natural and recombinantly prepared organisms through application in various areas of the national economy (environment, food, chemical industry, pharmacy and medicine) to their inhibition in the sense of evaluating compounds potentially suitable as future drugs and their supporting components,
• fermentation production of biopolymers suitable for the production of biodegradable bioplastics,
• in vitro production of plant biomass, plant stem cells and specific secondary metabolites applicable primarily in pharmacy, medicine, cosmetics and biologization of plant production,
• development and application of screening molecular-biological methods, diagnosis and elimination of phytopathogens of agricultural crops,
• biotechnological evaluation of agricultural products of plant origin aimed at the food industry,
• synthesis of biogenic nanoparticles and their use in plant biotechnologies.
